Is there a Discord translator app?

Discord has no translator of its own. On Discord, an app is a bot. You can add a translator app to a server, so that it translates for every member, or to your own Discord account, so that it translates for you in any chat. BabelBot works in both ways. The account install works like a plugin, but it is an official Discord feature, so you do not need a client mod.

Who sees the translation
  1. Add it to a server

The bot translates new messages for every member.

  2. Add it to your account

You translate any message for yourself, also in DMs.

  3. Client mod plugin

Only you see it, in your own Discord app.

What is a Discord translator app?

Discord calls bots apps. Their commands are in the Apps menu of a message. A translator app is a bot that translates messages. You do not download it. You add it to Discord from a link.

Discord itself has no translate button on desktop, on the web, or on mobile. If you change Discord's language, the menus change, but the messages do not. So every way to translate on Discord uses another tool.

A translator bot for the whole server

An admin with the Manage Server permission adds the bot to a server. BabelBot then translates every new message into the target languages of the server, and every member sees the translations. Members write normally. They do not install anything or type commands.

Admins choose the languages and where translations appear in the dashboard. Members can also react to a message with a country flag to translate that message for the channel.

A translator on your own account, like a plugin

You can also add BabelBot to your own Discord account. Discord calls this a user install. It is an official Discord feature, so you do not change or mod the Discord app.

After you add it, right-click a message, or press and hold it on a phone, and select Apps > Translate Text. Only you see the translation. Detect Language tells you which language a message uses. Both work in DMs, group DMs, private channels, and servers without BabelBot.

Translate Text uses your Discord language. To read in a different language, run /set-context-language. Translate Text is free. You can use it and Detect Language 200 times per day in total. A user install does not translate a server for other members. For that, an admin adds BabelBot to the server.

What about translator plugins for BetterDiscord or Vencord?

BetterDiscord and Vencord are client mods. They change the Discord app on your computer. Their translator plugins translate messages in your own app, so only you see the result.

Discord's terms do not allow software that changes its app, and Discord can suspend accounts that break its terms. A user install gives you the same private translation and stays inside the rules.

Discord's terms do not allow unauthorized software that modifies its services. Discord Terms of Service, checked 26 October 2026

What about browser extensions and phone translator apps?

They also translate only for you. Your browser's built-in translation works only when you use Discord in a web browser. With a phone translator app, you copy and paste each message. To compare every way to translate, including flag reactions and voice chat, read How to translate on Discord.

How do I remove BabelBot from my account?

In Discord, open User Settings, then Authorized Apps. Find BabelBot and select Deauthorize. This does not remove BabelBot from servers.

Can a plugin translate the whole server for everyone?
