Cross-server connections

Connect one channel in each of two Discord servers.

A cross-server connection copies messages between two servers. You choose a channel and language on each side. BabelBot translates when the languages differ. When they match, it copies the message without using translation allowance.

For example, connect an English community's chat to a French partner community's chat. Each community can read and reply in its channel's language. Copies include the source server's name so members know where a message came from.

Before you connect

BabelBot must be installed in both servers. To create the connection, you need Manage Server in both. One server must have Ultra or Founder Access. That server sponsors the connection and pays for its translation usage through its plan.

Create the connection

  1. Sign in to the dashboard and select the server with Ultra or Founder Access.
  2. Under Extras, open Cross-server connections.
  3. Choose one channel and its language in each server.
  4. Create the connection.
  5. On Overview in both servers, make sure Translations is on so messages can travel both ways.

Channels marked Already used belong to a bridge or another connection. Remove that link before selecting the channel here.

Check both directions

BabelBot needs View Channel, Send Messages, and Manage Webhooks in both linked channels.

Send a sentence in the first channel's assigned language. Check the translated copy in the other server. Then send a reply from the other side.

If only one direction works, check Translations and BabelBot's channel permissions on the sending side and the destination side. Troubleshooting can help.

Replies, edits, deletions, attachments, and copied reactions work as described in Bridges.

Disconnect or resume

Open Cross-server connections in either server's dashboard. Select Disconnect beside the connection and confirm. You only need Manage Server in that server to disconnect it.

If the sponsoring server loses Ultra or Founder Access, BabelBot pauses the connection. It resumes when that server has an eligible plan again.

Deleting either channel or removing BabelBot from either server deletes the connection. Create a new connection after replacing the channel or reinstalling the bot.

Channel rules

Give selected Discord channels different translation settings.

Flag reactions

Ask for a translation by adding a country flag reaction to a message.
