Target languages
Choose which languages BabelBot translates messages into.
A target language is the language you want to read. BabelBot detects the language someone writes in, then translates into your selected target languages when needed.
For example, with English and Spanish selected, a French message gets English and Spanish translations. An English message can get a Spanish translation.
Choose your languages
- Sign in to the dashboard and select your server. You need Manage Server in Discord.
- Open Target languages in the sidebar.
- Add a language. You can search by its English name or its name in your dashboard language.
- Add more languages if your members need them. Start with one or two to keep the channel readable.
Your plan limits how many target languages you can add. See Billing and limits for the current counts.
Translation languages and bot language are separate
The Discord command /language changes the language of BabelBot's own messages. It does not choose translation targets. Choose those here in the dashboard.
Understand the AI only label
Languages marked AI only need available AI translations from your plan. Other supported languages can use BabelBot's in-house translator for plain text after your AI allowance runs out.
Check the result
If English is your only target, send Bonjour, comment allez-vous ?. Otherwise, use a sentence in a language outside your selected targets. Read the result in Discord and confirm the expected languages appear.
If one channel uses different languages, open Channel rules and use Preview a channel. A matching rule can replace the server's target languages for that channel. Bridges use the languages assigned to their linked channels.
Remove or change a language
Remove a language from the list to stop using it as a server default. Channel rules and bridges can still have their own language choices, so check those too.
To leave English messages untranslated while translating French messages into English, keep English here and add it under Skip languages.
